Numerical Simulation of the ELSA PSD Tests of R/C Bridges
The ELSA reaction-wall facility is currently being used for pre-normative research on the design of civil engineering structures in seismic areas. This project includes the specific apsects of the design code for bridges. The research programme includes the ongoing pseudo-dynamic (PSD) testing of six bridges in the ELSA Laboratory using a substructuring technique. The present report describes the pre-test numerical analyses performed for the bridges. It starts with an overview on the pseudo-dynamic testing procedures in ELSA and refers to the specific aspects concerning testing of bridges. The geometry of the bridges, the characteristics of the materials and the model used in the numerical simulations, a fibre type model implemented in CASTEM 2000, are presented thereafter. The regularity issue is also referred to. The influence of the foundation block and the importance of the shear displacements on the seismic behaviour of the bridges, are discussed.
