Until recently little attention has been devoted to developing standards for high temperature corrosion testing. The 3 aspects currently receiving the greatest attention are described in this paper. These include, guidelines for conducting corrosion exposures (the do's and don'ts of exposing test specimens or components), methods for assessing the severity of corrosion attack (how to examine and interpret for instance weight change and section loss measurements) and the reporting of test results. Equal emphasis will be placed on metals and ceramics corrosion with applications over a very wide range of high temperature environments.
