Abstract

Under the auspices of the seven-nation Photovoltaic Energy Project (PEP), an international round-robin of reference cell calibrations and performance measurements of newer technology (NT) photovoltaic (PV) devices was initiated. A previous recommendation was that the total uncertainty of acceptable reference cell calibrations should be less than +/- %. The World PV Scale (WPVS) sample set was an attempt to act on this recommendation. For this data set, the sigma standard deviation is 7.53%, a large value. It is believed that this value can be reduced to 2% or better.
Many measurement difficulties were encountered. Contacting problems were uncovered by the large-area Si cell samples. The wide spectral range of the CuInSe(2) cells resulted in larger variations because the spectral measurements covered only the silicon spectral range.
