  • Determination of Elemental Concentrations and Identification of Sources of Atmospheric Aerosol at the Ispra Site in Italy Based on Multivariate Technique

Abstract

Within the framework of the JRC programme for the study and protection of the environment, air particulate samples have been analysed from the semirural Ispra (Italy) site over several years. The concentration of fifteen elements (S, Cu, Mn, Zn, Mg, K, Ca, Si, Al, Fe, Ti, V, Pb, Br and Cl) have been determined using wavelength dispersion X-ray spectroscopy. Moreover the data were subjected to varimax rotated principal component analysis with the aim of distinguishing between different pollution sources and identifying the sources. Enrichment factors have also been calculated and inter-element correlative analysis have been carried out. This results are presented and discussed in this paper.
