Abstract

The Measurements and Testing Programme of the European Commission aims to contribute to the harmonization and improvement of methods and measurements carried out within the European Union and hence to the comparability of data necessary for trade activities, monitoring of environment, food and health, modelling applications, etc. One tool currently used to achieve this goal is the organization of interlaboratory studies. Other activities are related to the development of new methods and prenormative research. Most of the research and development projects are undertaken in the frame of shared cost actions within the Third Framework Programme. Bursary projects are also funded on an individual basis to give support to larger projects. This paper describes some achievements of bursary projects and gives an overview of the modalities of grant applications within the Standards, Measurements and Testing Programme.
