The current status of the European Soil Database version. 3.1B is presented, together with some thematic maps derived from the database, the database dictionary and an attribute coding description. The major milestones of the 1995 activities where the acquisition of all the data for the European Union (EU) Member States before 1995 (EU-12), the PHARE countries (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria) and their integration in one single database. Much is still to be done for the border harmonization between countries. In order to achieve this, a working group, Soil Information System Development, has been created. Future activities will focus on the inclusion of the new Member States (Finland, Austria and Sweden) together with Norway, the Baltic Countries, Croatia, Slovenia, Albania and Switzerland, and the final border harmonization between all countries included.
