This research aims to develop a deeper understanding of Spheral Solar Cells optics, for the optimization of these new photovoltaic (PV) devices. Spheral Solar Cells have recently been developed and successfully produced by Texas Instruments (presently by Ontario Hydro Technologies), and represent a new and extremely promising approach for a significant production cost reduction. After encouraging results of the production technology, the concept needs now an optimization of cell conversion efficiency. The practical outcome of the research project could be the design and realization of an optimized structured encapsulant.
