Abstract

We show that there exists an analytic form of spherical wavelets in the frequency domain and we present its application in digital holography. Indeed, according to Huygens-Fresnel principle, mathematically demonstrated by Kirchhoff and Sommerfeld, wave propagation can be described by a summation of spherical wavelets. To solve scalar diffraction problems, one used to approximate Huygens spherical wavelets to quadratic surfaces, in order to obtain an analytic formulation in the frequency domain. A frequency analytic form of spherical wavelets enables us to obtain more accurate results in computing waves interferences. As an application of this result, we present numeric improvements of Fresnel computer generated holograms.
