A comparison of European practices for the qualification of electrical and I & C equipment important to safety for European LWR nuclear power plantFunded under: FP3-NFS 1
This report presents the principal results of work carried out in 1992 by the BRENCHMARK Qualification Group commissioned by the Commission of European Communities (Working Group on Reactor Safety). The document provides a detailed comparison of the various practices used within the then European Communities, Sweden and Finland, for the environmental and seismic qualification of electrical and I and C equipment important to safety for light water reactor (LWR) nuclear power plants. The environmental and seismic parameters which are specified for the qualification, type testing or analysis, of equipment, are strongly linked to the specific design characteristics of the plant. The general principles of qualification and the main elements of the methodology are however similar within the European countries. This provides encouragement for work to harmonize the European qualification practices which will increase the international acceptance for the supply of qualified equipment and contribute to the widening of the market for such equipment.
