Abstract

Generally, diagnostic methods and applications in a stellarator are not much different to those in tokamaks. However, requirements for W7-X diagnostics are different in the sense that they must be able to address the specific issues of optimization and to verify the configuration. This may be comparable to the demands for optimization and diagnostics of tokamak divertors. In this paper optimisation criteria for stellarators are addressed and discussed in relation to physics and diagnostic issues.
