A model of light scattering in three-dimensional plant canopies: a Monte Carlo ray tracing approach
A new radiative transfer model, taking advantage of the latest computer graphics techniques, has been developed to study radiation transfer problems in terrestrial environments over a variety of spacial scales. This model may be used as a virtual laboratory, to generate reflectances and absorption profiles of complex targets, where all geometrical and physical quantities can be controlled explicitly. This flexibility is illustrated with some possible applications of the model.
