Abstract

The history of the collaboration between the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM) and the Standards, Measurements and Testing Programme (SMT), two services of the European Commission (EC), collaborating in the field of nonnuclear reference materials for almost 30 years, will be reviewed in the light of the collaboration agreement now in operation. This agreement gives IRMM the full responsibility for the storage, periodic stability testing, sales, batch renewal and recertification exercises of Bureau Communautaire de Reference (BCR) Certified Reference Materials (CRM). It is technically supported by the availability within the EC services of important storage facilities and unique preparation facilities for large quantities of high quality candidate reference materials.
