Optomechanical sensor technology for the measurement of low frequency microvibrations and temperature variations
Research carried out in the application of optical technology to the development of measurement instrumentation is presented. Sensors based on the optical interrogation of a thin cavity interferometer allow micro-deformations and displacements of the cavity walls to be identified. Coupling of the sensor head to a mechanical or thermal variation allows such variations to be quantitatively analysed. The high sensitivity of such opto-mech-atronic sensors, implemented using off-the-shelf components, indicate their technological potential.
