Abstract

A European Laboratory Without Walls (ELWW) is formed by a group of scientists and industries interested in closely related topics. The starting point for an ELWW is an EC biotechnology programme funded project which joins with other EC projects on related topics. In this case the larger current project on the B cell in vitro human cellular response is based on three separate but related projects which are part of the EC Biotech programme. The three projects involve a total of 12 laboratories in Denmark, Sweden, Greece, the UK, Italy, Belgium and Germany, and cover important aspects of current research on the B cell in vitro immune response: the development of in vitro technology for the production of human monoclonal antibodies, the use of human antibody libraries cloned in bacteriophages, and the study of the B cell immune response involved in allergy.
