Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The FAIR programme (Fisheries, Agricultural and Agro-Industrial Research) is an RTD programme which belongs to the fourth framework programme (1994-98) and has a budget of ECU 646.5m over a period of five years. The programme is co-managed by DG XII - Science, Research and Development, DG VI - Agriculture and DG XIV - Fisheries. The aim of this programme is to increase the competitiveness, efficiency and sustainability of agriculture and fisheries and related industrial sectors, and to promote rural development.
RTD activities will help to remove barriers preventing the wider use of certain biological materials to produce food and non-food products and will encourage the emergence of new products, outlets and processes in agriculture, forestry, agro-industry and fisheries. RTD must therefore respond to the socio-economic problems of rural and coastal communities and address aspects relating to the safety, quality, health and environmental implications of new food and non-food products for which there is an obvious public demand.
