Abstract

The study on knowledge models for networked library services is published as an addition to the series in parallel with another study report on open distance learning in public libraries (EUR 16904). Both are considered as key contributions to the expanding role of public libraries in the networked environment.
The principal objective of the knowledge models study has been to investigate the library's evolving role in the mediation process, combining collection-based resources with access to external documents of various types. In this context, it provides guidelines for librarians and library users wishing to make use of new models for acquisition, lending and reference based on integrated access to networked functions.
