Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The European Community has established a wide range of programmes designed to support research and promote scientific cooperation in Europe. One of these is the human captial and mobility programme (1990-94). Its overall aim is to achieve a qualitative and quantitative increase in the human resources available to European research. Many of the networks within the programme are multidisciplinary or have diverse applications. This includes the network on magnetic molecular materials which is the subject of this report. The purpose of this publication is to give an illustrative example of the work being undertaken within the HCM programme. The report covers molecular magnetism: an introduction; molecular magnets: how to build them; molecular bistability and spin crossover compounds; nanoscale magnetic materials: a new dimension in molecular magnetism; the magnetic molecular materials network; two representative laboratories; molecular magnets: the rush to room temperature and beyond; spin crossover compounds from basic science to the device; nanoscale molecular clusters and molecular bistability; the HCM network and the Europeanization of research.
