Abstract

The increasing interest in the determination of the solar UV field over the earth surface in connection with the observed decrease of stratospheric ozone, has pushed also our laboratory to investigate the reliability of the UV data measured along the day by a Brewer Mark IV since 1992. Starting from the 1995 UV-spectrometer intercomparison campaign held at Ispra on May 1995, that has allowed to calibrate and to compare the performances of our UV spectrophotometers (the Brewer and an Optronic OL-754 double monochromator), a careful cross-check of the behaviour of the two instruments has been made.
Comparisons between the solar UV-B spectra taken by the Brewer and the calculation of the sun irradiation using a radiative transfer model have also been attempted (for clear sky conditions) in order to have an independent control of the validity of the data measured.
The possibility to compare the Brewer UV-data with those taken from instruments on board satellites has been considered. .
