Irregularities caused by non-structural masonry panels: the utilisation of simplified models
Even though masonry infill panels are normally considered non-structural elements, they have very significant effects on the global seismic response of frame structures. In particular, infills with an irregular arrangement in elevation may cause soft-storey effects, with concentration of energy dissipation and inelastic deformation demands in a single storey. In this paper the effects of masonry infill panels are discussed, based on the results of a series of full-scale tests and the nonlinear analyses with global-type models.
