Abstract

The STORM project investigates aerosol phenomena inside reactor components during severe accidents. Representative experiments are performed under prototypical accident conditions like light water reactor (LWR) Station Blackout, pressurized water reactor (PWR) V-Sequence, etc. In particular the effect of high gas velocities on the deposition and resuspension of aerosol particles in pipework is investigated. Results of thermal-hydraulic tests with steam and nitrogen and deposition tests with solid particles of SnO(2) are presented. These tests have been carried out to investigate turbulent and thermophoretic deposition in straight tubes with nitrogen and/or steam atmospheres.
