Abstract

In this paper a water vapour cold trap, developed in the form of a shell-and-tube heat exchanger, has been tested to determine its removal efficiency. The emphasis of the study is placed on the influence of the cryogenic cooling on the efficiency of the process. The overall performance characteristics were found to be moderate with regard to atmospheric air detritiation requirements. The behaviour of the system is interpreted in terms of aerosol physics and recommendations are addressed for the improvement of its trapping capacity.
