Abstract

The permeation rate of various NO(2) permeation tubes available on the market were compared. Their stability was found to be good with a relative standard deviation of about 1% for their permeation rate. Permeation tubes are therefore suitable for calibration of nitrogen oxide analysers if they are stored and used according to the specifications of the ISO 6349 standard. Gravimetry and chemiluminescence (calibrated by static volumetric method/gas phase titration) were used to determine the permeation rates. The two techniques showed no significant precision differences and the bias between both methods was about 2%. This level of bias is not relevant when the permeation tubes are used for calibration.
