This document catalogues and illustrates the Vegetation Fire Products available from the FIRE project of the Monitoring Tropical Vegetation Unit (MTV), Space Applications Institute, Ispra, Italy, as of June 1996. The products are derived from a variety of satellite data sources (NOAA AVHRR and ERS ATSR-1) and document vegetation fire activity at global, continental (Africa) and regional (Central Africa and mainland southeast Asia) scales. Derived products consist of active fire and/or burn scar data and are supplied to users in digital form. Subsidiary data sets such as unclassified images and cloud cover are also available for certain products. The data has application to land use studies, ecosystem change assessment, atmospheric chemistry and climate change modelling. This document serves as a catalogue for interested parties to identify FIRE products of relevance to their research needs, provides concise information on the derivation of these products, suggests possible applications of the data, and provides a contact point for obtaining products.
