Abstract

The nuclear activation of bronzes is of interest for the potential use of thin layer activation (TLA) technique to monitor corrosion of artistic bronzes. For this use the proton induced production of (65)Zn and (164)Sb, from Cu and Sn respectively, are considered of interest. For both reactions the excitation functions have been calculated, using the computer code ALICE. Additionally, the stopping power, projected range, activation profile, yield profile and calibration curve (ie induced activity versus depth), have been determined. Experimental verification of the theoretical results has been achieved by the activation of bronze samples, using the stacked foil technique and electropolishing of bulk samples have been used.
