Reduction and replacement of animal tests: plans for 1998 and onward
Recent international discussions and agreements on criteria for new test validation and regulatory acceptance are welcomed, and what should be required of new test methods, prediction models and mechanistic tests is discussed. Suggestions are made as to how real progress toward the reduction and replacement of animal procedures could best be achieved. Finally, ECVAM's plans for 1998 and onward with respect to cosmetic testing and other forms of toxicity testing, are outlined.
