Abstract

A spectral as well as a time evolution PIC code are presently being developed to solve the linearized gyrokinetic equations for studying global microinstabilities in toroidal geometry. In many ways these 2 methods are complementary and therefore allow for valuable cross-checking and validation of the different approximations made. This parallel approach forms a firm basis for future studies of non-linear evolution or higher dimensional systems.
