  • Oklo, natural analogue for a radioactive waste repository (phase 1) : Volume 3 - Characterization and modelling of migrations away from reaction zones (Okélobondo and Bangombé sites)

Abstract

The benefit of results from previous programmes on Oklo do not extend to the hydrogeology. This task demands the conceptualization of deep water circulation, a preliminary modelling, the drafting and execution of a drilling programme, then the acquisition of hydraulic parameters and sampling of deep waters for hydrogeochemical analysis.
Numerous types of deep water circulation, corresponding to different interaction times and transit within the system are described.
The degeneration of the (235)U/(238)U isotopic connection in the dissolved uranium was effectively measured in samples close to reactors, confirming that this isotopic connection may be used as a tracer for reaction zones. The geochemical mechanisms controlling the evolution of this isotopic connection in space was the object of modelling using the geochemical-transport code STELE. .
