Abstract

This book contains the results of the European wind turbine standards projects (EWTS), carried out by the leading wind energy institutes in Europe.
The first part of the book addresses many technical issues which at the beginning of the project were not properly covered by existing wind turbine standards. Issues like wind farm effects, the use of load measurements in the determination of design load spectra, and probabilistic approaches for analysing wind turbine safety contained too many blank spots and ambiguities. Based on recently obtained research results and experiences, recommendations are given to improve the currently used wind turbine standards and certification criteria.
The second part of the book addresses the process of mutual recognition of measurement results between the European wind energy institutes. As a first step, uniform and quality procedures for measuring wind speed, mechanical loads, and electrical power quality agreed on by the institutes are described. .
