The idea behind the COST 512 action Modelling in Materials Science and Processes (MMSP) was to bring together the different classes of materials and processes that shared a common interest in modelling so as to have a larger benefit from the various approaches undertaken in each field. The largest interest was processing in either the solid or liquid states. However, microstructure modelling and prediction of properties was also an important area of investigation. Metals were represented to a greater extent than polymers and composites, and little activity was found in construction materials and ceramics. The goal of the MMSP '96 conference in Davos (September 29th - October 2nd, 1996) to discuss the progress made in each of the groups and to share information freely between the participants. This book contains the proceedings of this workshops.
