A multiple autoresonance process for accelerating electrons is presented. The configuration under study consists of 2 circularly polarized electromagnetic waves propagating in opposite directions along a constant magnetic field and having frequencies in the electron frequency range. Such a configuration admits under appropriate conditions stochastic motion of the particle. It is shown that the stochastic nature of the motion plays an important role in inducing the multiple autoresonance acceleration. For a proper choice of the parameters of the system, the multiple autoresonance process can generate a bulk of particles moving in a preferential direction and having a considerable time averaged velocity parallel to the magnetic field.
