The role of sensitivity analysis in the corroboration of models and its links to model structural and parametric uncertainty
In September 1995, a conference on sensitivity analysis (SA) of model output was held in northern Italy. The present special issue aims to offer a perspective on the conference, perhaps the first ever to be entirely devoted to this important aspect of modelling activities. Sensitivity analysis is a well known topic in the context of reliability engineering; among the key issues where SA plays a role are model identification, mechanism reduction, control theory, and risk assessment. Sensitivity analysis of model output is also crucial in model verification and validation.
