Plasma heating by Langmuir probe
The power balance of a Langmuir probe in a magnetic field is analysed. It is shown that the plasma temperature inside the flux tube connected to the probe can be significantly increased by ohmic heating. The temperature increase is larger for a higher density or lower temperature plasma. The plasma density, electron temperature, and the edge plasma turbulence measured by the probe can be significantly affected by the temperature increase.
