This collection contains some of the papers originally presented at the workshop Social Shaping of Design held in Lyon (France), February 2-3, 1995, under the joint auspices of the COST A3 Action (Management and New Technologies) and COST A4 Action (Social Shaping of Technology). The workshop was organized in order to call for contributions from different disciplines : philosophy, history, psychology, sociology, economy, ergonomy and cognitive sciences. There is therefore an interesting variety of contributions. The purpose of the discussions held during the workshop was to help to establish new links and debates.
Three themes were covered:
design and innovation;
the social shaping of technology debate and the design process;
design tools, methods and organizations as objects of study. dy.
