Coordinated study : steel-environmentFunded under: ECSC-STEELDEM 3C
In 1991, the European Commission established a coordinated programme for steel industry installations, in order to determine the suitability of production techniques required to reduce any environmental impact. With the assistance of the experts, general basis criteria have been set up, an exhaustive questionnaire (with some 4000 questions) has been drafted and all Community steel producers have been requested to fill it out according to their production routes. 166 companies replied and some 200 000 data were registered and validated, reliable data have been recorded and elaborated, resulting information has been analysed and interpreted, and finally this final report has been produced which satisfies almost all the original aims, although the programme of technical modifications and the cost analysis are not included. The report refers to some 77% of European steel production.
