Risk assessment: theory and practice
With the implementation of the 7th Amendment to Directive 67/548/EEC an obligation to carry out a risk assessment for new substances came into force, real or potential risks to man and the environment have to be assessed. A need was identified to exchange the experience gained up until now among the Competent Authorities responsible for the notifications of new substances. Therefore, the European Chemicals Bureau organised a workshop on risk assessment. Some of the results will also be of interest to third parties. For this reason, the nonrestricted information presented herein is published. Beside the contributions to the workshop, the reader will find part of the discussion and an additional relevant lecture presented as a case study.
