Technology options for plastics waste management
A conference was organized by the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) in the context of the work on technology trends in municipal plastics waste recycling (a project for DG XI B1) and was designed as a prototype workshop generally applicable to important technology issues in today's society. The aim of the conference was to provide all the key actors with the most up-to-date information available on all the aspects of plastics waste management and recycling in Europe. The conference provided a forum where the actors could exchange information each of them needed to gain a more comprehensive view of the problem. The emphasis was clearly set on dialogue and on building a common knowledge base. Three round-table discussions were organized for that purpose and the balance of the exercise appeared to be globally positive. This report summarizes the various presentations delivered at the conference and is concluded by an analysis prepared by IPTS.
