Abstract

A specific software has been developed to support safety analysis during the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) Engineering Design Activity (EDA) phase. It is based on the STARS code developed by the European Commission, Joint Research Centre. The software can be used to assemble, analyse and document safety related information such as allocation of safety functions, safety importance of components, results of failure mode and effect analysis and of event sequence analysis. Information can be easily retrieved and updated by using graphics interfaces to navigate through the plant safety model. This is of particular importance in an evolving design project such as the current ITER EDA phase.
