Abstract

Finite particle orbit width effects on the stability of Global Alfvén eigenmodes were analysed using a hybrid MHD-gyrokinetic model, which includes non-standard orbits. The model was applied to the analysis of the stability of Alfvén eigenmodes in plasmas in the presence of alpha particles. It was shown that Kinetic toroidicity induced Alfvén eigenmodes are marginally stable in 50-50 % deuterium-tritium equivalent discharges. Also, with respect to topological transitions of fast ion orbits in toroidal plasmas, a study was made of the distribution function of fast ions with non-standard orbits when they slow down collisionally. The work focussed on ions which have trajectories in phase space that intersect the locus of so-called pinch-orbits (a generalization of the trapped passing boundary).
