Abstract

The energy confinement time of Tokamak à Configuration Variable (TCV) ohmic, L-mode plasmas is observed to depend strongly on the shape, improving slightly with elongation and degradation strongly with positive triangularity. This dependence can be explained by a combination of geometrical effects on the temperature gradient and power degradation, without invoking a shape dependence of the transport coefficients. The results are presented in this paper.
