Abstract

The study concerns Environmental Impact Studies (EISs) of installations for the treatment and disposal of toxic and dangerous waste in the EU Member States. In total 33 EISs were collected, of which 28 EISs are considered in the Study. An Identification Form, which summarises the main information, was produced for each EIS collected. An Individual Report, which undertakes an in-depth analysis, was produced for each EIS considered in the Study.
The final report provides a comparative analysis between the approaches followed in the EISs and concludes with outlining recommendations for the improvement of the EISs, to be produced in the future, relating to the following topics: environmental factors, environmental indicators, baseline survey, impact prediction methods, uncertainty analysis, evaluation criteria, risk assessment, and the structure and contents of the EIS.
