The preparation of metals by reduction of oxide powders is necessary for the production of stable isotope targets. The high value of such isotopes makes it important to maximize the collection efficiency of the process. Apparatus was constructed for redirection/distillation using a Ta still and induction heating. Reduction of Tb and Sm oxides were carried out using La reductant, achieving yields of about 95%. Details of the procedure are presented in this paper.
