Environment and climateFunded under: FP4-ENV 2C
This publication provides general information on the European Commission's Environment and Climate Programme. Environment and Climate is one of the specific RTD programmes of the fourth framework programme (1994-98) and has been granted a budget of ECU 532 million over a 5 year period. One of the main aims is to gain understanding, in a global context, of the basic processes governing environmental change and climatic variation. The programme also sets out to assess the effects of environmental change (climatic and otherwise) on all socio-economic sectors. Another aspect is the development of technologies to monitor and protect the environment, and predict and reduce the risk of natural disasters. By adopting a comprehensive approach combining general science with the development of environmental technologies and taking socio-economic factors into account, the aim is to improve the quality of life for the people of Europe and build a firm foundation for sustainable economic development.
