Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

In June 1992, the European Commission published the brochure "Coal can be Green" (or "Coal can be Green I" as it is now known). Its aim was to describe the progress that had been made towards ensuring coal's future as a clean, cost-effective energy source for Europe, and to highlight the European Community's contribution to the development of relevant technologies. Since the publication of "Coal can be Green", further significant advances have been made in developing clean coal technologies and demonstrating their viability. Consequently, it is considered timely to provide an updated summary of the current status of coal as an environmentally credible energy option. That summary is presented here as "Coal can be Green II".
