Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The Industrial Research and Development Advisory Committee of the European Commission interviewed senior industrialists to ascertain their views on the state of science and technology in Europe and their comments on the research programmes of the European Union. The interviewees were drawn from companies disparate in size and sector. They expressed strong and sometimes conflicting views and yet produced a striking consensus on a number of topics. The issues considered include:
transfer of new scientific advances to industrial practice;
research and development and industrial competitiveness;
community research programmes and bias towards academia;
science for industry;
exploitation of the results of research;
management of community programmes.

The report concludes that on the whole the community research policy and programmes have been well established and offer good opportunity for further improvement. ovement.
