Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

This synopsis document is published to provide an overview on the objectives, validation sites and the expected benefits of the 18 projects implemented in the ENVIRONMENT sector of the TELEMATICS APPLICATIONS programme. These 18 projects were retained, following the first call (closing date March 1995) of the specific TELEMATICS APPLICATIONS programme launched under the fourth framework programme in the field of research and technological development and demonstrations (1994-1998).
The aim of exploratory action on telematics applications on the environment is to demonstrate the usefulness of telematics solutions for protecting and improving the environment. We hope that, through wide distribution of this report, the community of researchers, environmental experts from the European Environment Agency, national focal points and thematic centres, the Centre of Earth Observation, and environment managers and decisions makers, whether responsible for environmental management in industry or administrations will benefit from the achievements resulting from the European Commission's initiative in this domain.
