Since its start in 1985 EUREKA has helped change the face of European research and development. It has proven a successful tool in strengthening European competitiveness and improving the quality of life. This report provides a general picture of EUREKA's project portfolio as of 15 December 1995. The more than 700 running projects covered in this report have a total estimated cost of around 10 billion ECU and involve some 3500 participants, over 1200 of which are large companies, some 1100 small and medium sized companies, more than 1000 research institutes including universities and about 150 other organizations. The report also gives a statistical overview of the more than 280 EUREKA projects which have already finished. Furthermore, the report contains descriptions of 9 successfully finished projects which describe some actual results and experiences of European Research and Development activities under the EUREKA Initiative.
