Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The information brochure serves as a general introduction to the advanced communications technologies and services (ACTS) programme. The ACTS Programme was established under the Fourth Framework for EU research, technology development and demonstrations (1994-1998). It provides the incentive for industry, operators, research and educational institutions, and major users of communications to work together in new technologies and services. This will ensure that Europe enters the 21st century at the forefront of the revolution in communications, and achieves the greatest benefits for society. Work in ACTS stimulates the development and initial deployment of integrated broadband communications in Europe. Everyday communications can be supported by specific combinations of high-quality sound, still pictures and video images, data and text.
