Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

In 1994, Directorate General XIII of the European Commission invited proposals for studies and experiments covering the exploration and promotion of the use of telematic technologies to support communications, navigation and surveillance in the domain of air transport. This was part of the European Coherent Approach for Research and Technological Development (RTD) in ATM (ECARDA) initiative and was intended to form the foundation of the RTD work in the field of telematic applications to air transport systems which would be pursued under the Fourth Framework Programme. Fourteen contracts were placed with European companies and research organizations. The Commission is now publishing this new synopsis document giving a comprehensive overview of the final results of the set of projects and an indication of how, where appropriate, these are being or will be exploited as inputs to follow on projects under the Fourth Framework. The relationship between the Action Préparatoire d'Accompagnement et Soutien (APAS) projects and the new set of projects covering activities in RTD of telematics systems for air transport under the Fourth Framework is also indicated. Inside the back cover of this document is enclosed a compact disc read only memory (CD-ROM) which contains the full texts of each of the listed key reports.
