The paper describes the construction and calibration of a new twin pressure balance for the 1 GPa range. The calibration results obtained for the standards covering the intermediate pressure ranges are also given. The calibration chain starts from pressure measurements with a reference standard for the 5 MPa range that was calibrated using a high-pressure mercury manometer. The calibration of the 1 GPa piston-cylinders was checked against measurements of the mercury melting pressure at 0 C and verified in international pressure comparison measurements. The ISO standard uncertainty of pressure measurements at 1 GPa is 0.1 MPa.
