Abstract

The Ispra-EcoCentre project is aimed at implementing energy and environmental improvements to the Ispra site of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre. The monitoring of environmental improvements require the identification of and agreement upon the most significant indicators. In this first report an attempt has been made to identify these indicators. After having reviewed the environmental parameters used in other urban situations, 7 areas of environmental rehabilitation actions appropriate for the Ispra Research Centre, grouped in 3 categories, have been identified. The 3 categories are: Consumption of Natural Resources (Energy, Water, Ground, Materials, Air), Biodiversity (Flora and Fauna), Social Involvement and Human Behaviour. A preliminary evaluation of the identified indicators is given.
